Cognitive Rise is a UK enterprise workplace mindfulness programme — six months of weekly content for participants, with curators and admins delivering theory, weekly tasks, and reflection exercises. The brand pulls from clinical wellbeing references like Lyra Health.

Challenge

What was hard about it.

British enterprise wellbeing programmes have an unusual data sovereignty bar: GDPR plus internal audit policies that effectively rule out US-hosted SaaS for participant data. We needed every layer the product depends on — auth, files, email, error tracking — to live on infrastructure we own.

Solution

What we built to solve it.

Next.js 15 + Prisma + NextAuth v4 with role-based access. Self-hosted PostgreSQL for application data, MinIO for media uploads, Postal for transactional email. Sentry runs under our own organisation. Programme content unlocks progressively: a participant in week 7 cannot fast-forward to week 12.

Tech story

Decisions worth calling out.

  • RBAC with content gating expressed at the Prisma query level — a participant query physically cannot return future-week content
  • British English localisation throughout (programme, behaviour, organisation — all the right spellings)
  • Lyra Health-aligned palette (teal / navy / oatmeal) implemented via design tokens, not one-off hex values
  • Postal sends weekly reminder emails with delivery tracking — no SendGrid, no Mailgun
  • Sentry session replay (errors only, with PII scrubbing) for incident triage
